The death of a Whanganui toddler has been referred to the coroner.
Two-year-old Sophie-Maree Hunter was rushed to Auckland's Starship Hospital from Palmerston North last Saturday, where she was visiting family with her parents, but she later died.
The reason for her death is not known.
A spokesperson for the ooroner's Office, Matt Torbit, says the death was referred by Whanganui Hospital.
