Jury chosen in daughter murder case

12:15 pm on 6 August 2012

A jury has been selected in the High Court at Auckland to determine whether an Auckland man murdered his three-year-old daughter.

Seina Ikamanu died in December 2010, nine months after being admitted to Auckland's Starship Hospital with serious injuries.

As well as murder, Kefu Ikamanu is charged with causing grievous bodily harm and injuring Seina.

Dressed in black shorts, a suit jacket and jandals, he stood calmly in the dock as the charges were translated into Tongan.

When the murder charge was read, he stared at the ceiling, his eyes filling with tears as he denied the charge.

Seven men and five women have been selected to hear the case.

Opening arguments will begin on Wednesday, and then 20 Crown witnesses will be called to give evidence.
