Parts of Canterbury told to boil water

1:45 pm on 7 August 2012

Residents in parts of Canterbury's Selwyn district have been told to start boiling their water following a rise in E. Coli levels.

The Selwyn District Council says rain last week caused the Selwyn River to flood, resulting in unacceptable levels of the bacteria in the rural water supply.

The affected areas are Glentunnel and Hororata.

Water will be chlorinated until the bacteria is wiped out.
