Workshop discussing Christchurch council's problems

10:00 am on 8 August 2012

A group of Christchurch City councillors believe there needs to be significant improvement in the way the council and the government communicate with each other and with the public.

Seven councillors have met at a workshop discussing a recently released communications review that found the council has problems of distrust and misunderstanding, and had a closed approach to communicating with residents.

One of the councillors, Peter Beck, says it is a disgrace that the council, government and other parties involved with earthquake recovery do not have a collaborative approach to communicating with the public.

Mr Beck praised the $80,000 review, calling it frank and honest.

The full council will consider the review and its recommendations in about two weeks.
