The jury in the Nia Glassie murder trial resumed its deliberations at the High Court at Rotorua on Tuesday morning.
Five defendants face 22 charges including murder, manslaughter, wilful ill-treatment and assault following the death of the girl, aged three, from brain injuries in August last year.
After requesting an extra hour, the 11 jurors retired just after 7pm on Monday. They had been deliberating for five hours.
