Eight district health board areas have higher than normal rates of people seeing their doctor for flu-like illnesses, although fewer samples have tested positive for flu.
The latest weekly flu figures show South Canterbury has the highest rate of doctor consultations, overtaking the rest of Canterbury, which had the highest rate last week.
Next is Counties Manukau, Tairawhiti, Waitemata, Capital and Coast in Wellington, Otago and Southland, Hawke's Bay, Auckland and Canterbury.
The figures are compiled by the Institute of Environmental Science and Research.
