Canyon tragedy hearing adjourned

4:15 pm on 20 November 2008

A court hearing of charges laid against the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre following a canyoning tragedy that claimed seven lives has been adjourned until next year.

The Department of Labour laid four charges under the Health and Safety in Employment Act after six students and one teacher from Auckland's Elim Christian College drowned in the Mangatepopo Gorge in April.

The case was called in Taumarunui District Court on Thursday morning and was rescheduled until early next year to allow the parties to prepare for the case.
