A survey of 2000 recent immigrants has found most have jobs and are happy with life in New Zealand.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation Employment says more than 80% are satisfied with their life and almost 90% would recommend friends and family also move to the country.

It says the biggest reason for people choosing to move to New Zealand was to be near friends and family, followed by a more relaxed pace of life and the natural landscape.

Three out of 10 immigrants are unemployed, but of the rest, 72% say their job perfectly matches their skills.

The ministry says the employment rate for skilled migrants is above 90%.
