Three rescued from Mt Ruapehu

2:04 pm on 14 August 2012

Three people have been rescued from Mt Ruapehu after climbing the mountain on Friday.

The Rescue Coordination Centre says the two brothers and one woman were forced to spend Friday night in a snow cave because of bad weather.

It says the trio reached Dome Hut on the mountain on Saturday and activated an emergency beacon on Sunday, but the weather forced them to spend last night in the emergency shelter.

The centre says a helicopter rescue on Monday was also halted by the conditions, but members of the Whakapapa Ski Patrol reached the people about 8pm Monday night.

They were in good spirits but hungry.
