Residents in the Christchurch suburb of Hillsborough have been told to evacuate their homes for a second night because heavy rain could have made land above them unstable.
The Christchurch City Council says people living in six properties on Lucas Lane have been told to leave as a precaution on Wednesday.
The council says although there has not been any land movement, rain has been entering cracks at the top of a cliff the properties sit beneath.
The situation will be reassessed on Thursday.
