New company now running school payroll

7:41 am on 20 August 2012

A new company is in charge of salaries and wages of more than 100,000 teachers and other school employees.

The Ministry of Education has spent nearly $30 million to switch the education service payroll from Datacom to Talent 2 in a project that is now two years late.

The payroll delivers $162 million to 90,000 people every fortnight and pays 110,000 in the course of a year.

The last time the payroll for schools was moved, there were serious problems and many people were not paid correctly.

But the ministry is confident that the system is now ready.
