A man is in Waikato hospital after a serious assault in Mangakino, north of Taupo.
The police say the 49-year-old was attacked when he and several others went to a house to follow up an earlier incident which happened in the town on Friday night.
The man sustained serious injuries to his face and head during the assault as well as bruising to his body.
Investigators are talking to the two groups involved in the incident, but no arrests have yet been made.
