8:23 pm on 28 August 2012

Police have busted a multimillion-dollar drugs syndicate following a five-month investigation.

They say nine men and one woman have been arrested in Napier and Auckland on offences that include the importation, sale, supply and possession of class B and C drugs.

About $100,000 in cash and four motor vehicles have been seized, along with several thousand pills and 3kg of active ingredients for making the pills.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Cahill says the ingredients were imported in powder form from China and Singapore and turned into pills similar to Ecstasy.

Police say the operation is directly linked to a high-profile drugs bust last yearin which 22 people were arrested.

Some of those arrested on Tuesday are already on active charges stemming from the previous operation.
