An intense storm in Christchurch has damaged houses and kept emergency services busy.
Forked lightning and thunder was followed by large hail stones from about 6pm on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Fire Service says the bad weather caused two conservatories to collapse and lifted roofing tiles on some homes.
It received about 20 weather related callouts during the storm, which lasted about an hour.
