Choy killer out of prison on parole

The first of Michael Choy's murderers is now out of prison on parole, almost 10 years since he was sentenced.

Alexander Peihopa was 15 when he struck and killed the Auckland pizza delivery man with a baseball bat in September 2001.

Peihopa, now 25, was one of two people sentenced to life in prison for the murder.

An official report says he is engaged and motivated, regarded as a role model in prison, has sponsors offering him a home and has a job.

Peihopa was freed last month, subject to several conditions because the Parole Board believes he no longer poses a risk.

However, Mr Choy's mother, Rita Croskery, says he must be monitored.
