Appeal dropped by hunter against sentence

12:00 pm on 5 September 2012

A man sentenced to prison for nine months after he shot and killed another hunter has abandoned his appeal.

Christopher Dummer, 54, was sentenced in Wellington District Court last month on a charge of careless use of a firearm causing the death of Cam McDonald, 29, in the Aorangi Forest Park in April.

Dummer's lawyer, Andrew Davie, sought home detention at the sentencing hearing, but Judge Peter Hobbs imposed a prison term.

Mr Davie then indicated an appeal would be filed.

The High Court was advised on Tuesday that Dummer did not wish to proceed and the appeal was formally dismissed by Justice Kos.
