Howard League to take legal action against council

The Howard League for Penal Reform says it will take legal action if Whanganui District Council proceeds with a plan to ban Stewart Murray Wilson from 19 parks and reserves.

The council voted on Monday to issue the trespass orders which are yet to be served on the serial sex offender, who was released on 29 August after serving 16 years in prison.

It intends to proceed as planned and the notice will be posted to Wilson who is living in a house on the grounds of Whanganui prison.

If the ban is implemented, the league will file High Court proceedings will be filed seeking a judicial review of the council's decision.
