Police say say an altercation took place before a hit and run on in central Christchurch on Saturday.
A man in his 20s suffered multiple serious injuries after he was hit outside Burger King on Moorhouse Avenue about 3am on Saturday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Murton said police have found the green four-door saloon involved in the crash but still need to talk to its driver.
He told Morning Report an altercation took place between the pedestrian and the driver and passengers in the car before the crash happened.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Murton said a number of other people also witnessed the crash.
