Skycity taps into Auckland's Asian market

New Zealand's largest cinema chain is tapping into Auckland's Asian market.

Skycity Cinemas begins its trial season of nine foreign films next Thursday.

The films will have the same release date as Asian markets, and are predominantly Chinese blockbusters, but will also include movies from other east-Asian countries.

Skycity Cinemas general manager Jane Hastings says says the nine films will be from a range of genres, such as action, family, and romance.

She says the project follows the success of their Bollywood programming for the Indian community.

Ms Hastings says the target audience, especially for some of the action based films, isn't just limited to those in the Asian New Zealand community.

She says martial arts films now have a much broader appeal and there will be English subtitles.
