The mother of a four-year-old boy born with brain damage will appeal against a court decision allowing the Accident Compensation Corporation to cease its medical cover.
Austin Manning, who is confined to a wheelchair, was born with a condition that caused small areas of his brain to die.
ACC argued his condition was inherited and not the result of poor treatment at birth, and the Wellington District Court ruled in its favour.
The boy's mother, Helen Manning, says the help they had from ACC for a year was amazing, but now her son will have to rely on the public health system, which is stretched for staff.
