Graffiti bill passes final reading

9:13 pm on 19 September 2012

Legislation allowing the Hutt City Council to enter private property and remove graffiti has passed its third and final reading in Parliament.

The member's bill in the name of Labour MP Trevor Mallard requires the council to give at least 10 days' notice to the owner of a property.

It has been passed into law with the unanimous support of MPs across the house.

Mr Mallard says it will allow the council to deal with graffitied properties whose owners are absent, or cannot be contacted.
