Funeral for hit-and-run victim

8:26 am on 20 September 2012

The funeral of the victim of a hit-and-run in Christchurch at the weekend will be held on Thursday.

Police say Sean Hutt, 20, was standing with friends at the intersection of Marshs and Shands roads on Saturday night when he was hit and killed by a car.

The 18-year-old driver, Harry Silcock, appeared in court on Monday charged with failing to stop and ascertain injury and render assistance. Further charges are likely.

On a page on a social media site dedicated to Sean Hutt's memory, friend Kyle Thomson says he would not be alive if Mr Hutt hadn't pushed him out of harm's way.

Mr Thomson suffered a broken leg and has been recovering in Christchurch hospital.

The private funeral begins 10am.
