Wellington Airport's fire service was scrambled on Thursday evening as a Beechcraft plane landed with smoke in the engine.
The airport company says details are sketchy, but it believes no passengers were on board.
There are 12 Beechcraft planes in use in New Zealand and they can carry up to six people including the pilot.
