A woman and her two dogs have been rescued from a fire at her home in the Dunedin suburb of St Leonards.
The Fire Service says it was called to the house just after 3am on Friday and found it well alight.
St John Ambulance says the woman had been trapped on a first-floor balcony and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The dogs have been collected by the SPCA.
Fire safety officers will investigate the cause of the fire.
