A 12-year old girl who died of cancer has been buried in the grounds of the historic Taranaki Cathedral.
Carrie Allen, daughter of cathedral dean Jamie Allen and his wife Suzy, died on Saturday after suffering from a rare soft tissue cancer for three years.
The graveyard at St Mary's was closed in 1861 and only rarely has permission been given for a burial there.
Last month Carrie persuaded singer Dave Dobbyn to sing at a concert in New Plymouth to raise funds for Child Cancer and CanTeen.
Mourners at her funeral on Friday were asked to wear pink or a CanTeen bandanna.
