A man appeared in Papakura District Court on Thursday charged with kidnapping a missing Hamilton woman.
Rae Portman, who is also known as Bok, was last seen in Auckland three months ago and a homicide investigation was launched last week.
The 32-year-old Hamilton man has been granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody until his next appearance in October.
Police say more charges are likely.
Ms Portman checked into a motel in the Auckland suburb of Mt Albert on 20 June.
She checked out the following day, and left her belongings.
Ms Portman was two months pregnant when she went missing.
