The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has named the New Zealander killed in an accident in Croatia as Yannick Branson.
Mr Branson died while rock-climbing on the Dalmatian coast.
Local media are reporting that his climbing companion, a Finnish woman, suffered serious injuries in the incident at Ilinac Rock on Sunday evening.
The ministry says New Zealand's embassy in Rome and its honorary consul in Croatia are liaising with local authorities.
It says consular support is also being provided to Mr Branson's family.
