Emergency managers recommended around NZ

12:07 pm on 5 October 2012

An independent review recommends that emergency managers be installed around the country to help respond to Civil Defence emergencies.

The recommendation is one of 108 made following a review of the response to the February 2011 earthquake in Christchurch.

The review is mostly favourable and says emergency services responded rapidly and worked well together.

Communication was good between various Government agencies and the Government's wage subsidy is praised.

Among the recommendations is a call to look at employing suitably experienced emergency managers to support the response to large scale emergencies.

It also recommends a higher priority be given to preserving businesses and jobs after an emergency and for better connections between the official response and community groups.
