Non-parole period reduced for rapist

A non-parole period has been reduced for a man jailed indefinitely for the prolonged rape of a woman in her home in Pukekohe.

Roger Tira Kahui was sentenced to preventive detention with a minimum prison term of 16 years for the attack in 2006.

He appealed against a number of his convictions and the length of his sentence at the Court of Appeal.

The Court dismissed his arguments about the convictions, but has cut the non-parole period to 13 years.

In the written ruling, it says Kahui will not be released at all unless the Parole Board is satisfied he will not pose an undue risk to the community.
