Anti-redevelopment protesters occupy state house

10:12 pm on 11 October 2012

Five people are occupying a state house which has been removed from the Auckland suburb of Glen Innes in protest against a Housing New Zealand redevelopment plan.

The project will see more than 150 state homes removed from the area.

Housing New Zealand says 260 houses will be rebuilt. Some will be state homes, while others will be sold privately.

Late on Thursday night, three of the protesters were sitting on the roof of the removed house, which is temporarily in Mt Wellington, and the other two are inside the ceiling.

They are holding a sign that says, "Tamaki is a community, not a company".

The protesters say the Housing New Zealand's redevelopment is ruining the community.
