Milford Road rockfall partly cleared

12:49 pm on 16 October 2012

Part of the road into Milford Sound in Fiordland has been cleared of a massive rock fall.

The only road in and out of Milford was blocked by hundreds of tonnes of rocks brought down by a major landslide overnight on Friday.

Transport Agency's Southland manager Peter Robinson said half the road had been cleared by Tuesday mornng.

Workers were blasting the bigger rocks lying on the road and that would continue throughout the day.

He said the Agency was on track to reopen the road on Wednesday, though that depends on the weather.
