No NZers in fatal Thailand fire - MFAT

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says no New Zealanders are believed to have been among those killed or injured in a fire in a nightclub popular with tourists in Thailand's capital, Bangkok.

At least 59 people were killed and 184 injured in the fire at the Santika Club on Thursday in the city's Ekkamai district, a busy entertainment area frequented by locals and tourists.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the New Zealand Embassy is working closely with Thai police.

It said at this stage no New Zealanders are thought to have been killed or injured .

The injured include three Australian tourists and others from France, Britain the Netherlands and Japan.
