Firearm training limited by funding freeze

The Police Association says pressure on funding means police officers are missing out on training in firearms and tasers.

It says a funding freeze by the Government means it needs to find $200 million over the next two years.

The association says officers who are only occasionally on the frontline have not been trained, so the are unable to use the weapons.

President Greg O'Connor said only half of the force's 8000 sworn officers receive training in firearms and tasers.
