Spanish triathlete Javier Gomez has won the men's grand final in Auckland, while a second place finish means Britain's Jonathan Brownlee claims the 2012 men's triathlon world series.

Swiss triathlete, Sven Riederer was third in Sunday's event.

Brownlee succeeds his brother Alistair as world champion and says it's good to keep the title in the family.

Both Brownlee and Gomez showed their class in the running leg, easily hauling in the New Zealander Kris Gemmell who had established a one minute lead.

The race got down to a straight sprint in the final 100 metres, which Gomez won.
