Council to debate Wilson ban again

8:16 am on 23 October 2012

Wanganui District Council will on Tuesday again debate whether to ban convicted sex offender Stewart Murray Wilson from public areas.

Wilson has been living on the grounds of Whanganui prison since being released in August after serving 16 years for multiple rapes, assault, drugging and bestiality.

In September, the council agreed to ban Wilson from 18 parks and reserves. But some councillors now oppose their own ban.

Cr Phillipa Baker-Hogan told Morning Report the things the council wants to do are being done anyway.

She said the council has spent $78,000 on the Wilson case and there is no point in throwing more money at it.
