Police in the Bay of Plenty have found a missing hunter and are preparing to fly him out of the bush.
Desmond Kuik disappeared on Sunday after he left two companions at their Waiiti Stream camp site, near Whakatane, on the northern edge of Te Urewera national park to hunt alone.
On Tuesday, searchers found sticks placed as arrows leading to a hut, where Mr Kuik had left a note saying he was lost but had found food there.
Police say search teams found Mr Kuick alive and well about 1.30pm on Wednesday. He will be flown out of the bush and medically assessed.
Police say anyone lost in the bush who finds shelter such as a hut should stay there.
