A 20-year-old Wellington woman has become the youngest person to walk the length of the country.

Emma Daken, who set out from Cape Reinga on 1 November to help raise funds for cystic fibrosis research, arrived at Stirling Point, Bluff on Friday afternoon.

Ms Daken said her motivation for the fund-raising walk was a friend who has the condition.

She said the 2,200 kilometre walk seemed daunting at the start, though she was keen to get on with it.

"I got tired throughout the trip but I always knew that I would get to Bluff, and here I am, and $28,500 better off for the Cystic Fibrosis Association."

Emma Daken said she and a friend are writing a book on the walk.
