A hitchhiker who murdered a Tokaanu man has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 10 years.
Morgan Wayne Knight, 21, was sentenced in the High Court at Rotorua on Wednesday after pleading guilty to murdering Gordon Tunnicliffe in his home near Turangi in April this year.
Mr Tunnicliffe, 64, picked up Knight while travelling from Taupo, offered to put him up for the night and was later assaulted and killed.
