Police in Central Otago have recovered the body of an elderly woman from the Clutha River.
Police were notified that the 83-year-old from Roxburgh was missing just after midday on Thursday and she was found in the river just before 3pm.
A large search was conducted in the afternoon involving police, search and rescue, the Coastguard, the Fire Service and the woman's friends and family.
Police say they have referred the matter to the Coroner and expect to release the woman's name later on Thursday.
