Rotary distributes aid boxes in Fiji

Rotary International has distributed 150 emergency supply boxes to people affected by floods in Fiji and will send a further 300 from Auckland on Friday morning.

Heavy rain and gale force winds are putting 131 evacuation stations across islands under strain without enough food or water.

The first batch of chilly bin-sized plastic boxes were stored in Fiji by Rotary for emergencies, and have been distributed in the Rewa River Delta, the cities of Nadi and Ba and the Western Region.

Rotary Pacific area spokesperson, Rob Crabtree says the only thing the boxes do not contain are food and water.

However, he says the boxes can be used for collecting rain water when they are empty.
