The Wellington District Court on Monday observed a moment's silence in memory of defence lawyer Greg King.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death in Wellington on Saturday, which has been referred to the Coroner.
District Court Judge Tom Broadmore said Mr King's death was a grievous blow to the legal profession and the community in which he operated and has been felt keenly by the judiciary.
Mr King's funeral will take place on Friday.
