11:27 am on 7 November 2012

People are being warned not to collect or eat shellfish gathered in North Taranaki.

A public health warning has been issued for Mohakatino, near Mokau, down to Motunui.

Shelfish testing this week has shown high levels of paralytic shellfish poisoning, which can cause numbness, dizziness and in extreme cases, paralysis.

Taranaki District Health Board says warning signs are being put up in the relevant areas.
