Taxi driver in critical condition

6:54 am on 24 January 2009

A taxi driver remains on life support in hospital after being assaulted and kidnapped in Taranaki early on Friday.

Tony Brosnan, 49, from Waitara, was found in the boot of his vehicle in a carport at Urenui Primary School, 30km northeast of New Plymouth, by periodic detention workers at 8.45am.

He had a severe head injury and is described as critical.

Police are appealing for help from anyone who might have seen the taxi between midnight Thursday onwards. The driver's last call to his dispatcher at Egmont City Cabs was before midnight.

The car is a white Toyota Camry with the numberplate TAX11.

They particularly want to hear from anyone who rode in the taxi.
