Minister sacks second board of trustees

Education Minister Anne Tolley has sacked a second board of trustees after a report from the Education Review Office raised concerns about student safety.

Mrs Tolley released a statement on Thursday saying a commissioner will replace the board at Edmund Hillary Collegiate in the Auckland suburb of Otara after an ERO report recommended intervention.

The report raises concerns about the board's governance, the quality of teaching and student safety.

Mrs Tolley says abuse by some teachers includes hitting, swearing at and denigrating students.

Last week, the minister replaced the board of trustees at Selwyn College in Auckland with a commissioner.
