More arrests likely in Masterton shooting

Police say they're likely to make more arrests over a neighbourhood dispute in Masterton, which resulted in the shooting of a teenager on Saturday morning.

A Woodville man, 32, has been arrested, after police pursued him from the scene.

Police say they were called to Makora Road, shortly before 5am, and found a hostile and drunk crowd of about 20 people and a young man with shotgun wounds.

The victim, 17, who was shot in the knees, is in Hutt Hospital.

Police believe the shooting is linked to problems between two neighbouring addresses.

A woman who lives nearby and didn't want to be named said the families were fighting last weekend.

Neighbours say they want it to be over but are worried the shooting could lead to retaliation.

The man faces a number of charges, including wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful possession of a firearm. He will appear in the Masterton District Court on Monday.

The police say a BB gun and a crossbow were discovered during an examination of the scene and that further arrests are likely.
