No CAA inquiry into 2004 helicopter crash

The Civil Aviation Authority says it will not be opening an investigation into a 2004 helicopter crash that killed two people.

Wreckage of the Hughes 500 helicopter was found last week near the head of Humboldt Creek in Fiordland.

The two people on board were declared dead at an inquest in 2004.

CAA says it did not open an inquiry at the time because the helicopter couldn't be found, and it doesn't believe it will learn anything new from wreckage that is almost nine years old.

The remains of pilot Campbell Montgomerie, who was 27, and his passenger, 28-year-old English backpacker Hannah Timings, were recovered from the wreckage last week.
