Union welcomes delay in review of education payroll unit

The Public Service Association says a decision to delay a review of the Ministry of Education's payroll unit is a victory for common sense.

The Ministry had released a restructuring proposal to staff cutting numbers in the unit from 23 to 14.

PSA national secretary Brenda Pilott says staff have now been told that the review will not go ahead until the Novopay payroll system is running smoothly, and will be held in April next year at the earliest.

She says the delay will give breathing space for staff who have been putting in long hours to concentrate on sorting out Novopay's problems and preparing for the big Christmas payroll.
