Wellington City Council is permanently closing a central city street at one end to traffic, as part of a drive to improve safety in the area.
After public consultation, Bond Street will close to all traffic at Willis Street from this weekend.
There were seven reported crashes at that intersection since late 2010, and pedestrians have to deal with cars turning across the footpath.
Drivers will still have access to parking, loading zones and shops on Bond Street, if they enter from Victoria Street.
