The Ministry of Primary Industries has asked Interpol to confirm whether a South Korean fisherman charged with illegally dumping fish has been killed overseas.

Soon Hwang, 42, a former factory manager on the trawler Oyang 77, was reported killed in a car crash in China, after charges for the fisheries breaches were laid.

The ministry seized the Korean fishing vessel in June and charged the captain and Hwang. Three charges of illegally dumping fish were laid against Hwang.
