CYF working with family of fatal driver

Child Youth & Family says it's working closely with the family of an Auckland woman who escaped a prison sentence on Friday for crashing her car and killing her daughter while high on methamphetamine.

Toni Ericksen, 33, was sentenced in Auckland District Court to 12 months home detention and 200 hours community service, and disqualified from driving for four years.

The judge said he was persuaded not to jail her so she could care for her youngest daughter.

Her older daughter, who was 12, died in the car crash in Kaipara in July 2011.

A social worker's report said Ericksen had refused to be drug tested, so it was not known if she had stopped using the drug.
